Samara
VOLGA REGION · JEWISH HERITAGE & MEMORY
Samara, situated on the eastern bank of the Volga River, was home to a vibrant Jewish community from the mid-nineteenth century. The city’s Jewish population contributed significantly to its commercial, architectural, and cultural life during the Imperial era. Professor Brumfield’s photographic archive documents surviving synagogues and sites from across this important Volga region center.
